I was wishing for an epic and I definitely got one. And it was yet another scintillating display of tennis.
I said yesterday I wished for the best man to win and the better man was unfortunately(for me) Nadal. You just have to take your hats off to this man. His dogged determination and unrelenting waves of attacks left Federer perplexed towards the end of the match. I swear I saw some of the most baffling shots in the game. Most of the times I was just shaking my head in disbelief. Federer played as good as it get but Nadal was better, if that was even possible.
But the true measure of the man was during the prize ceremony. As Federer stepped up to address the adoring crowd, his words started to turn into tears as the sinking feeling finally came full circle. So overhelmed that he had to step back to gather himself. Nadal upon seeing this hugged Federer like a good old friend consoling the same person who was his adversary just minutes ago. He even went on to praise Federer, refusing to bask in all the spotlight.
I now have newfound respect for Nadal. Not many will remain humble after all the euphoria of a victory. So congrats Rafa, you’re a class act.
