Here I go again

Today marks one of my happiest days reading The New Paper because when I started reading from the back, I saw a 5 page spread on Paul Scholes. Yes Scholesy, only my favourite player.

If I thought I was the only one who was in complete awe of his display against Fulham, well I was wrong. I’ve run out of superlatives describing him and apparently, so have the footballing world. Anyone who saw his goal would definitely have been impressed, but beyond the highlight reel Scholes was spraying 40 yard diagonal passes cross field and amazingly, all of it found the feet of his team mate. The trajectory and the unerring accuracy of his passes were so unreal you have to see it to believe it. And as usual, his awareness and touch remains vintage class.

If you think I’m just caught in the moment, here’s a testament to the exceptional no.18

Patrick Viera: The player in the Premiership I admire most? Easy – Scholes

Thierry Henry: I can’t understand why Scholes has never won the Player of the Year award. He should have won it long ago. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t seek the limelight like some of the other ‘stars’

Cesc Fabregas: He is the one whose level I aspire to reach. He is the best player in the Premier League.

Zinedine Zidane: My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder.

Rooney: Some of his football tonight, I don't think there's any other player in the world who could produce that. In my eyes, he’s one of the best ever.

Sir Alex Ferguson: (While having a list of Manchester United players over 30 read to him) You forgot Paul Scholes – and he is my best player.

Admirations from fellow players and legends all round. I rest my case.
