Lego My Ego

Okay gang, I know you're all very psyched up about Coldplay and all, and truthfully, I wish I was. But I don't like them much beyond what, 4 songs? But I'll tell you why I'm VERY VERY VERY VERY excited to go!

BECAUSE I JUST FOUND OUT.... MERCURY REV IS OPENING FOR COLDPLAY. I know this is where you guys go "Aaahhhh, ya Mercury Rev. Sometimes I also Mercury Rev. But not too often la."

Mercury Rev is an American shoegaze/psychedelic/experimental rock band whose sounds create majestic soundscapes that with a couple of chords hark to the 1960s divinities of The Beatles or The Byrds and with the next couple of chords, create grand, ochestra-driven Hollywood-worthy instrumentals. Most of the time, they make music to listen to while you take drugs. But that is where the distant, dreamy, almost aloof vocals of frontman David Baker (HAHA even his name has that allusion to drugs) mesh so seamlessly and beautifully with the deliberately shuffling, melodic tunes and arrangement of his bandmates.

Most importantly, they've made anthems for the lifestyle-drug generation with sleeper hits like Opus 40, Lego My Ego, Tides Of The Moon and The Dark is Rising. The music is moody and slow mostly, so I doubt you guys will enjoy it. So I'm not going to put up YouTube videos of Mercury Rev, either.

Instead, I'm gonna say this:

Egg.
