The KL Trip Series!: Dramatis Personae

On 19th June 2008, I embarked on a 5-hour journey to Kuala Lumpur, with 9 of my closest friends, and Nazir. We've been planning this for a long time now, and after months of planning, booking and my friend Faliq asserting that the trip will never happen, we found ourselves in Boon Lay Market, with our bags well-packed and Faliq well-eating-his-own-words.

Today I start a 5-part series on the KL trip that I went for with Messrs. Aizat, Ben Chiew, Faizal, Faliq, Irwan, Joses, Mus, Nas, Nazir and Sam.

So I shall start with what made the KL trip so damn fun and worth all that planning in the first place - the people I went with.

Let's go by alphabetical order. So we shall start with Aizat. I had gone on two holidays with Zat prior to this, and he has always been good fun. Just that he's quite anal when it comes to hygiene. Which is good because our hotel room did not look like some crazy fuck rock band had just stayed in it. He provided civilisation in a dingy 2-star hotel.

Next up is Ben. I know Ben as the stable defender of TLFC. But when it comes to shopping, Ben appears unstable. Either way, Ben can use. Inside joke there, sorry.

That's Ben on the left.

Let's not forget about Zal, who was majorly responsible for the feasibility of the trip. He was the one who booked the hotel and the coach tickets. Don't let those mat looks fool you. Zal is a mat. Just don't let his looks fool you. Don't let anything fool you, for that matter. I'm just trying to give sagely advice.

He's touchy, he's so weirdly gay yet straight and he's one of the worst bed buddies ever (because he keeps on rolling over and gets all touchy-feely with you like a very frisky boyfriend when you had a long, tiring day and just want to sleep, and he takes up a lot of space). Nevertheless, Faliq brought fun and a bit of healthy insanity into the trip.

Also coming with us is our very own TLFC goalkeeper and my good friend since SAJC, Irwan. Which might be good or bad, because his jokes can range from 10/10-rating ones to -2343857248567786/10 ones. Again, inside joke there. Sorry.

My dear friend since my days in SJI, Joses, came along with us, making Ben and I the only non-Malays in the gang. (Nazir and Faliq and Mus are considered Malay here.)

One of my best friends ever, Mustakjm, came along too. Mus brings with him his exquisite blend of street smarts and elitism to the trip, and while some may find that irritating, I find it to be a particular asset.

For the first time ever, I went on a holiday with another one of my best friends since my SJI days, Nas. Nas is primarily responsible for looking out for hellos, t'hellos and everything in between. I seriously hypothesize that if Nas does not see a good-looking girl within a span of 17 hours, he will wither and die.

That's Nas on the left.

The trip would mean so much less to me if Nazir hadn't come. This year marked our 11th year as friends - that's half our damn lives. The difference between this trip and our previous ones? Nazir seems less fickle-minded when it came to shopping. Very proud of him on that account.

Last but not least is Sam - Nas' uncle and friend, and my friend and sometimes monkey's uncle (there's all this uncle talk, but I assure you, he's my age). He also happens to be my cousin's cousin's uncle. Long story. Anyway, here's Sam.

At 930am, the 11 of us got on the bus, and I spent a majority of the journey sleeping. The trip was fun, but that's another story for another entry coming up soon.

(I look like that because I was tired; stayed up until 4 talking on the phone with the love of my life. Stop laughing at me for having my eyes closed, damn it.)
