Euro Watch

I don’t know why but the hype of Euro 2008 has not got to me yet. Even though the tournament is already ongoing, I still don’t feel particularly excited about any prospective matches. As of right now, I feel like I can do without watching any of them live but the Tohari Paijan in me tells me to stay up and catch all of the action so I obliged.

So far, three rounds of matches have been played and tonight will conclude the final group’s debut matches in Euro 08. Tonight will also put Spain into the spotlight and you all know how I strongly I feel for them, especially their midfielders. Nas, Singapore’s leading astronomist, will perfectly understand what I mean. But being the perennial underachievers, they will probably win all the group matches with convinction and style but then fall flat in the first hurdle at the knockout stage. If that happens, I won’t be too surprised. And if that happens, I will put all my blame on Puyol trust me.

The following are my thoughts on Euro 08 so far. Holland has been the most impressive la duh but what’s even more impressive is Wesley Sneijder. He totally ran the show last night, from start to finish and he certainly is the best individual player so far. And together with Van der Vaart and Nistelrooy, they make a very threatening attacking triumvirate(amacam English B4). Even si Kunyit puts in two assists in a match. Not forgetting Robben and Van Persie who are still regaining match fitness. If they can put their egos aside and get their act together, then they just might be painting the town orange at the end of it all. Besides that, Portugal looks very formidable and Germany is still ruthlessly efficient. France was out of sorts despite the abundant talent and Italy should just pack their bags and drown their sorrows in pizza. One team I tip to be the dark horses of the tournament is Croatia. They can really play some eye catching football and in Luka Modric, you have someone who can really hurt (luka, get it get it) the opponents.

It is still very premature though to try and determine the winners, so let’s all chuck our crystal balls aside. For now, come on ESPANA!
