You guys know right, when Zat and I start talking about the quality of the Spanish midfielders, we'll just go on and on until like even Bruno Cheyrou is mentioned. But can you blame us? We'll obviously talk bout Xavi ["uuuuh...], Alonso, Iniesta [-waaah...] Fabregas [-aaaah...], Silva, Nas [-beloa"]. Kisurat, they're not good at all, not good. You guys saw how Spain played last night, how Xavi and Iniesta basically tore the German defense time and time again. And that was when Fabregas wasn't at his best la, or so to say he had a quiet game. Imagine when he is. No, don't imagine, just watch the replay of the semis. Even though Alonso didn't get much playing time before last nite, when he came in, he contributed to some sublime passing movements. I shall not start on Xavi and Iniesta la, coz there has to be an end to this entry somewhere. They can selit (slip through) the ball thru any empty space and pass to one another within close proximity with opponents all around. Plus all their through passes. I think I said "Kisurat!" like 17 times (or some multiple of 17) last night, in awe of their passing capabilities, not that I don't know of them la. So the big question is, can TL play like them or at least try to emulate their play? Obviously not ah, unless, UNLESS....
Naah, no unless.

Arshavin, who?
I stayed up all night to watch the so-much-hype-like-England Arshavin, what he's all about. People talk about him like they do about me and all.
Ok, there are 2 lies in the above statements. Firstly, I did not stay up all nite coz I was too tired, and fell asleep only to be awaken 10 mins after Zat's missed call, 20mins into the game. Secondly, noone actually talked about me la.
Seriously, I was quite disappointed to see nothing from Arshavin ah. It was like watching myself play ah, merepek gils. No wonder the media rated him like 4/10 for the game, kisurat.
In the first half of last nite's game, Spain looked quite ineffective, couldn't really get the flow going, except for a few times that they managed to get the ball to the Russian keeper, Akinfeev. I think this is the first time I've seen Spain having lesser possession than their opposition - like 47%-53%. Normally Spain would be having at least 60% possession and a lot of completed passes. However Russia had only like 1 or 2 shots on target during the first half, contrasting with Spain's 6 or 7. Quite sad Villa had to be subbed out though. He couldn't add to his tally and most probably missing the final against Germany. In came Fabregas, and Spain was playing like a 4-5-1 but Silva was the only "winger".
As early as the 50th min, Spain broke the deadlock. Iniesta, who played his best game for Spain so far, assisted Xavi Hernandez to just direct the ball in between the legs of Akinfeev, OLE!. Xavi was the one who started the move, passing the ball to Iniesta then latching onto it later. I'm not sure if Iniesta meant that cross or it was a bad shot but what the hell, it's a goal. I'd give Xavi a rating of 8. He's one of the most simplest and effective player I've seen. He just gives those short and clean passes, directing the whole play of the game. Amazing.

When I saw Guiza coming in for Torres and Alonso for Xavi, I thought Aragones just did a Pekerman. But of course, Spain still had more players who can actually create something out of nothing, like Fabregas and Iniesta, so it wasn't exactly a Pekerman. The next goal came in like 15mins after the first. Ramos passed to Fabregas then Fabregas just gave the ball a damn nice lift into the path of the in-running Guiza who scored wif his outer foot. Niiiiiice. Before that, I was just thinking bout how this Guiza is quite a disgrace to the number 17. He gave me a tight slap on the face.
The last goal was more of a slap on Russia's confidence. They knew they couldn't possibly come back from a 3-goal deficit. Again, Fabregas was in the thick of everything. In the last few games, he was used as a sub in about 60mins but last nite he was subbed in so early on. Yet, he was fabulous. Obviously, rating 9 ah. In the words of Zal, baik gils to the max of the world. Not 10 bcoz he didn't play the full game. Fabregas crossed perfectly for Silva to get the ball and slot the ball into the bottom left corner. Silva deserved a goal ah for his runs and passes in the game. Rating for Silva - 8. Credit to Iniesta too, who gave a nice Aimar-like L1+Triangle through pass to Fabregas. Iniesta's rating - 8.
Towards the end, Russia had a few attacks too, trying to get a consolation goal for their notss goodss coach Guus Hiddink. Well, somehow Puyol and gang managed to contain them. And Casillas making a few saves too.
So Spain is in the final!!! Finally, after being somewhat underachievers who'd always get knocked out at the quarters of every competition. They now face quite a task, trying to pry open Germany who are somehow very efficient. Ah guys, watch out ke pe?

Friday the 20th: KL 2nd Day
Since Zat kicked it off with Day 1, I shall tuliskan what happened on Day 2. The original plan was to go to Sunway Lagoon from morning til late afternoon. That was the plan. Execution didn’t have a chance at all coz most people had little cash left after spending a bomb on the first day.
After Zat and I finished our 5km-run and changed, we joined Zal and his roomies at this shop opposite the hotel. Zal nak step, he bought this orange juice for 15RM. Well, he said it was delicious, mainly coz of the price.
So we headed out for breakfast. Wan had to check on the map, taking note all the shortcuts and stuff. The walk to the warong (hawker) was like besok ah, dun even get me started bout my feet. It was quite near to KLCC, but definitely far from our hotel.
Not big at all

The main highlight was obviously our night outing - visit to the zoo. I will not elaborate much, just gonna show some snippets of what we did at the zoo, quite happening.
At the hotel lobby

After looking at the owls and tigers, some of us stayed up to watch the Croatia vs Turkey quarters, while some let the TV watch them sleep. What a waste Croatia didn't get thru, they were playing nice football. Well, Sam said "Turkey ada banyak Rustu (Restu)". Restu means blessing. Nvm if you don't get it.

KL di KL : Kita Lepak di Kuala Lumpur Day 1
So that’s us, all 11 of us. See the bus at the back. That’s not ours.
Ours was a humble 24 seater. Not much complains there because we were all just excited at the prospect of going KL together. And that was the whole point of the trip. It was about the company. Baik ah kita members.
In the bus, the lucky ones got a single seat. The unlucky ones got the double seaters. The totally sial suey nak mampus punya got Faliq. Kesian Sam. Thanks to my quick thinking, I managed to sit beside Nazir at the last minute. Still not a pretty sight but it was better than having to give Faliq a high 5 every ten seconds. Dia high maintenance dok.
To kill the time during the journey, we did our own things.
Some slept.
Some wore shades and pretended to sleep while they actually posed for the camera.
And none of them played with their PSP.
“ Mau pegi mana mau pegi mana mau pegi mana. Singapore ada, Ipoh ada, Johor ada. Tanya je tanya je.” We just wanted to ask them to shut up la.
Or “ Bus mana lu mau? Aeroline? Aeroline ada aeroline ada”. Muka confident to the max la, then he brought us to his booth and showed the bus, YELLOWline. Asalkan they sound the same, they just whack. Seriously nak kena tumbuk ah.
After buying the tickets, our navigators for the trip, Joses and Wan took over. SISPEC power. They led us to Hotel Agora. Hotel-wise, lets just say we could have it better. According to Suff, even Hotel 81 rocks his socks better. Location wise, it was perfect. It was along Jalan Bukit Bintang, adjacent to Lot Ten and directly opposite Sungei Wang. Speaking of it, here’s a brainteaser. Banyak banyak sungai, sungai mana banyak wang? Go figure.
We settled down into our rooms.
Faliq settled into his gay tendencies.. and I played along.
First room consists of Zal “Wooooo”, Wan “I think Mas Selamat is 2/3 Woman”, Ben “ I Can use and so can you” and Sam “ Tahu tak pe, tempeh tanak, nasi lebih, sambal kurang, ayam panas, kuar pedas sikit”.
Second room had Mus “Lance Corporal Contingent Commander”, Joses “ Pseudo Mat” and Nazir “I dontsss have auto roam”.
The last room was left with Nas “ Kaki aku basah, tangan aku basah, seluardalam basah, Bras basah”, Suff “I miss Racheal, awww”, Faliq “Nak wrestling kapaa” and aku la siapa lagi.
Since it was already quite late, we grabbed a quick meal at some food court at Lot 10. Our first taste of Malaysian Food. Then we broke up into groups and that’s when the fun began. Wan recommended this hair salon to those who thought they badly needed a haircut. Just for the experience, 5 of us in total got a head massage cum hair wash cum hair cut cum hair styling from a professional stylist. It was worth the 50 ringgit though I’m not sure I’ll do the same thing in Singapore.
Before
We roamed around the area looking for the best bargains. After all, that was the sole purpose of going KL.
Dinner at A&W's. I bet you don't know what it stands for.
Me and Nas were on our way out when this DVD salesman approached us. We politely declined. He then somehow chose to tried to convince me further and this was what happened.
Salesman kurang ajar : Lu mau blue? Lu mau blue? (whispers)
Me : Oh saya da ada banyak ah. Da cukup. (Laughed to myself cos it was funny what)
I should have just said no. Suddenly, his expression changed.
Salesman kurang ajar : Oh lu da ada cukup ah? Lu suruh kawan lu (points at Nas) pegi
balik bawa blue ke sini sekarang. Saya tunggu sini.
For a while, I thought he was kidding. But he was already shoving his face into mine so no joke there. I was taken aback so I didn’t know what to say.
Salesman kurang ajar : Ah pegi bawa blue sekarang!
Me : Ok maaf la.
Salesman kurang ajar : Lu lain kali tanak belii cakap tanak belii lu ada faham tak.
Kita pun belah ah apa lagi. I thought that was half-funny and half-scary ah.
A few moments later as we were walking away, Nas said as a matter-of-factly to me,
“ I knew I should have got myself a switchblade ah. Kalau aku ada, aku da stab dia ah. No one will know kan”. HAHA. That has to be the most ridiculous statement of the trip ah. This coming from a guy who’s too scared to start a conversation with a Hello, He now wants to kill people. Baik ah Nas. Kau bukan player ah, kau murderer.
On the way back to our hotel, we just had to buy Ramly Burger at this classic stall by the road. The true authentic Ramly burger, made in Malaysia.
The last plan that night was to catch the Germany-Portugal game together in someone’s room. But watching it in our sleep was nice too.
As usual before I slept, I routinely prepared my running attire and placed my shoes beside the door ready for my compulsory daily morning jog the next day.

The KL Trip Series!: Dramatis Personae
On 19th June 2008, I embarked on a 5-hour journey to Kuala Lumpur, with 9 of my closest friends, and Nazir. We've been planning this for a long time now, and after months of planning, booking and my friend Faliq asserting that the trip will never happen, we found ourselves in Boon Lay Market, with our bags well-packed and Faliq well-eating-his-own-words.
Today I start a 5-part series on the KL trip that I went for with Messrs. Aizat, Ben Chiew, Faizal, Faliq, Irwan, Joses, Mus, Nas, Nazir and Sam.
So I shall start with what made the KL trip so damn fun and worth all that planning in the first place - the people I went with.
Let's go by alphabetical order. So we shall start with Aizat. I had gone on two holidays with Zat prior to this, and he has always been good fun. Just that he's quite anal when it comes to hygiene. Which is good because our hotel room did not look like some crazy fuck rock band had just stayed in it. He provided civilisation in a dingy 2-star hotel.
Next up is Ben. I know Ben as the stable defender of TLFC. But when it comes to shopping, Ben appears unstable. Either way, Ben can use. Inside joke there, sorry.
That's Ben on the left.
Let's not forget about Zal, who was majorly responsible for the feasibility of the trip. He was the one who booked the hotel and the coach tickets. Don't let those mat looks fool you. Zal is a mat. Just don't let his looks fool you. Don't let anything fool you, for that matter. I'm just trying to give sagely advice.
He's touchy, he's so weirdly gay yet straight and he's one of the worst bed buddies ever (because he keeps on rolling over and gets all touchy-feely with you like a very frisky boyfriend when you had a long, tiring day and just want to sleep, and he takes up a lot of space). Nevertheless, Faliq brought fun and a bit of healthy insanity into the trip.
Also coming with us is our very own TLFC goalkeeper and my good friend since SAJC, Irwan. Which might be good or bad, because his jokes can range from 10/10-rating ones to -2343857248567786/10 ones. Again, inside joke there. Sorry.
My dear friend since my days in SJI, Joses, came along with us, making Ben and I the only non-Malays in the gang. (Nazir and Faliq and Mus are considered Malay here.)
One of my best friends ever, Mustakjm, came along too. Mus brings with him his exquisite blend of street smarts and elitism to the trip, and while some may find that irritating, I find it to be a particular asset.
For the first time ever, I went on a holiday with another one of my best friends since my SJI days, Nas. Nas is primarily responsible for looking out for hellos, t'hellos and everything in between. I seriously hypothesize that if Nas does not see a good-looking girl within a span of 17 hours, he will wither and die.
That's Nas on the left.
The trip would mean so much less to me if Nazir hadn't come. This year marked our 11th year as friends - that's half our damn lives. The difference between this trip and our previous ones? Nazir seems less fickle-minded when it came to shopping. Very proud of him on that account.
Last but not least is Sam - Nas' uncle and friend, and my friend and sometimes monkey's uncle (there's all this uncle talk, but I assure you, he's my age). He also happens to be my cousin's cousin's uncle. Long story. Anyway, here's Sam.
At 930am, the 11 of us got on the bus, and I spent a majority of the journey sleeping. The trip was fun, but that's another story for another entry coming up soon.
(I look like that because I was tired; stayed up until 4 talking on the phone with the love of my life. Stop laughing at me for having my eyes closed, damn it.)
