When these two teams were drawn against each other in the semi final, I was intrigued. Not only because of both club’s illustrious history, but because they play football the way football deserve to be played. Manchester United and Barcelona. The two great ambassadors of the beautiful game. A match a football purist can only dream of. Two sides with massive talent and free flowing attacking style. Put them together on a pitch surrounded by tiers of passionate fans and surely you will get a match of epic proportions.
Nope. Not this time.
What expected to be one of the clashes of the season hardly lived up to its billing. And frankly speaking, I felt gutted and cheated of my sleeping time. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who share this sentiment. What I witnessed over the course of the 90 minutes was a dull, dour, lifeless and clearly insipid match played by two sides which probably let the hype got the better of them. And with Barcelona holding a staggering 65 percent of the possession, it was a painful time for a Man U fan like me. Yes, Barca played their usual brand of football and ran circles around the Man U players. But it was hardly decisive and threatening. Man U was happy enough to sit back and watch them pass the ball in neat triangles with no end result. The final score was so predictable that I could afford to watch a rerun of the Ellen Degeneres show at an ungodly time of 3 in the morning.
So Man U brings back a nil nil scoreline and they better be careful. Many would think that they would have the home advantage but I personally feel Barca is in a better position. Score one away and they’ll almost be guaranteed to win the tie. There better be some football this time round.
