Yonder ponder

So yesterday, Rai had her birthday celebration cum dinner at Meridien Hotel. Apparently, all 5 of us, namely Suff, Mus, Nas, Nazir and I were her top 30 people in her life. Which is hard to comprehend ah. I mean aku faham why I’m in, but Mus? Mus? Ah nevertheless he tagged along with us.

The build up to this event was kecoh dok. What do we wear? What shoes to match with? What, NO JEANS?? What should we get her? It felt like going to a prom all over again, but only this time without a satay. Which means it felt just like the other proms.

So we dressed up and according to Mus, public transport and well-dressed men cannot match. Plus the rain was still renjis renjis gerimis, hence we obliged. Nas took a cab, picked me and Nazir up at BP followed by Mus at freaking Woodlands and then made our way to TOWN (amacam TOWNS) via PIE. The ride was nice and all that la but there was this little red thing in front of us that was constantly running that had us a bit concerned. It looked like numbers to me and what was amazing was the rate that it was exponentially increasing. So in a bid to talk about the fare discreetly amongst ourselves, we used our birthday dates as a form of language. Like if we say it’s Nazir’s bday(12 Mar), it means that the fare has already reached 12 bucks. The fare went from Nazir’s bday to Nas‘s(13 Dec) to Jon’s (17 Dec) to Mus’s (22 July) to Suff’s(24 July). At this point, kita semua da cuak. Surely it can’t pass my birthday?! Well it turned out that it well passed my bday and into the new year too. Faham tak? The fare turned out to be 34 bucks and the funniest part was when we abruptly stopped the taxi just before we were about to pass the ERP gantry.

Mus : Ah uncle can just stop here.

Uncle : (terkejut dan terpegun) HERE?? I thought you said go straight… sure?

Us : Sure sure Uncle. This is the perfect place to stop.

Padahal it was a bit off our destination but we obviously didn’t mind that extra walking. So we reached the reception area and handed Rai her present. It was a Lyonnadis or Olympique Lyon or don’t know what la chocolates wrapped in pretty pink wrapper and sebilah ribbon. Then, she introduced us to the rest of her friends. We felt like superstars for a moment and Adebayorrrr SHIFT SHIFT SHIFT was there too.

The function room was cosy and pretty. Suff was the emcee while I volunteered to be camwhore for the day. Amidst all the eating, we received BRAND NEW INFORMATION and were totally caught off guard when we were expected to put up a skit of some sorts about Rai. We had never seen this coming and clearly had no idea how to begin.

The most unique part of this dinner though was the door gift. Rai made an individual card Hollywood style for everyone. Like I apparently was the Best Talent Scout for Child Actresses in ‘The Young Ones’. Suff got an award for Best Telephone Conversation in the Romantic Comedy 'Not Just Words'. Nazir had the Best Performance in the reality show ‘2 Lesbians and I’. Nas had the Best Opening Line in a Romantic Comedy with ‘Hello, Satay’. And Mus had the Best Use of Expletives in a Thriller ‘Uncensored’

These are our pictures. You will see a lot of our faces, so scroll down at your own peril.

Happy Birthday Rai! 21 is just a number. Suff is living proof.
