Gosh I feel like an adult!
For the first time ever, I was on the wrong side of the table. Today marked my first official Parent-Tutor Meeting. I was making my debut appearance as the Tutor and it was odd to say the least. Seriously la, you won’t be able to appreciate the efforts of our teachers until you go through it yourself. Even then, this experience pales in comparison because I was only handling a class of 8 students. Manakala, this was at least a stepping stone.
It was an entirely a different ball game (not that there was a ball in the first place) being on the other side. I had the occasional butterflies in my stomach but I guess that was expected. Still, I would rather do this a million times than having a similar experience with my future-in-laws. But then again, the damned name of this blog suggests that I should not worry about that anytime soon. Sial la kau TOWNS.
I relatively managed to calm my nerves though and waited with bated breath for the arrival of the first parent. A whole array of question were bombarded in my direction but I actually surprised myself with the ease and nature of my replies. I did a Suff a few times when I berbual dengan penuh semangat, putar-belit here and there and then forgot what the actual question was. Tapi yang penting, muka kena confident at all times. Baik ah Suff kau. That’s about the only valuable thing you taught me.
What struck me the most was the realization of the responsibilities that has been entrusted in me from the parents. It was a timely reminder that I should continue to perform my job with utmost integrity simply because of the position that I’m in. Nazir surprisingly knows the word for this. It’s called Amanah. And that’s not a girl’s name. So Nas, don’t ask me whether she’s hello or not.
At the end of the session, I actually felt genuinely old and probably, for the first time. Turning 21 does not translate to adulthood. This does.

Majulah!
The moment I reached home, I turned on the telly and was terharu at what I was seeing. The scoreline read Singapore 2 Lebanon 0 and it was merely the first half at that time. My first reaction was WOW. Obviously I was happy. In fact if not for tuition, I probably wanted to catch it live. But before I tried to jump into any further conclusions, I wanted to make a second inspection of the match and in particularly the team. These are some of my findings.
1) The new red Nike jersey looked nicer than expected, albeit damn tight fitting. You could see almost every rippling muscle movements through that thin red cloth. Nipples, veins, arteries, small intestine semua boleh Nampak. The sheer ketatness of the top actually made the Lions look more formidable than ever.
2) On the other hand, the Lebanese jersey was big, airy and its sleeves were almost ¾ style. Which made perfect sense because their badan semua mampat kebab punye. If they had worn a tight fit, it would probably bust their guts and the Lions would simply lick at the prospect of a fallen prey.
3) My favourite player of all time as well as Nas’s, Fazrul Nawaz actually started the game. And he actually scored! It was all too good to be true and the highlight reels proved that I was right. He missed a sitter in front of an empty goal and his goal came from a weak shot that took a fortuitous deflection which fooled the keeper. Tak boleh ang sehh.
4) While the game was played at the National Stadium, Singapore played like the away side for most of the match. The ball was constantly with the opposition and Singapore was guilty of giving away the ball cheaply time and time again. As a footballing side, they definitely fall short of the mark. The ball was always going long into the channels and they never really dictated the tempo of the game. The players were soild and very disciplined defensively but going forward, they just need that belief and confidence to hold the ball longer, play it in neat triangles and wait for that one killer pass instead of just punting aimless balls forward and hoping for the best.
5) Referee KAYU! Referee KAYU! Lebanon should have been given 2 clear penalties towards the end of the first half after blatant tackles from Bennett and Precious. On both occasions, I was just waiting for him to point to the spot but he really decided to be with the home team. And I swear that there was this foul throw so bad you would have thought it was AFL but again, the ref chose to ignore. Lastly, he booked Lionel Lewis for time wasting HALF A FIELD apart. That was the slackest refereeing act I’ve seen. He was in the other half of the field and nonchalantly took out the card and booked Lewis. I’m not sure Lewis even noticed it.
6) Singapore could have and should have scored a lot a lot more. They missed at least 4 gilt-edged chances in front of goal. Having said that, they always looked threatening on the break.
7) I concede that Shi Jiayi is a very good player with good feet and vision. I would rather him or Shahril Ishak pair Mustafic in the middle instead of John Wilkinson. He is a bit too English and direct for me. And please please play Khairul Amri and chuck Fazrul and Ridhuan to one side. Nas would staunchly agree with me in this one.
8) I didn’t know I can write about the Singapore team this much. Standard macam faham je.

Yonder ponder
So yesterday, Rai had her birthday celebration cum dinner at Meridien Hotel. Apparently, all 5 of us, namely Suff, Mus, Nas, Nazir and I were her top 30 people in her life. Which is hard to comprehend ah. I mean aku faham why I’m in, but Mus? Mus? Ah nevertheless he tagged along with us.
The build up to this event was kecoh dok. What do we wear? What shoes to match with? What, NO JEANS?? What should we get her? It felt like going to a prom all over again, but only this time without a satay. Which means it felt just like the other proms.
So we dressed up and according to Mus, public transport and well-dressed men cannot match. Plus the rain was still renjis renjis gerimis, hence we obliged. Nas took a cab, picked me and Nazir up at BP followed by Mus at freaking Woodlands and then made our way to TOWN (amacam TOWNS) via PIE. The ride was nice and all that la but there was this little red thing in front of us that was constantly running that had us a bit concerned. It looked like numbers to me and what was amazing was the rate that it was exponentially increasing. So in a bid to talk about the fare discreetly amongst ourselves, we used our birthday dates as a form of language. Like if we say it’s Nazir’s bday(12 Mar), it means that the fare has already reached 12 bucks. The fare went from Nazir’s bday to Nas‘s(13 Dec) to Jon’s (17 Dec) to Mus’s (22 July) to Suff’s(24 July). At this point, kita semua da cuak. Surely it can’t pass my birthday?! Well it turned out that it well passed my bday and into the new year too. Faham tak? The fare turned out to be 34 bucks and the funniest part was when we abruptly stopped the taxi just before we were about to pass the ERP gantry.
Mus : Ah uncle can just stop here.
Uncle : (terkejut dan terpegun) HERE?? I thought you said go straight… sure?
Us : Sure sure Uncle. This is the perfect place to stop.
Padahal it was a bit off our destination but we obviously didn’t mind that extra walking. So we reached the reception area and handed Rai her present. It was a Lyonnadis or Olympique Lyon or don’t know what la chocolates wrapped in pretty pink wrapper and sebilah ribbon. Then, she introduced us to the rest of her friends. We felt like superstars for a moment and Adebayorrrr SHIFT SHIFT SHIFT was there too.
The function room was cosy and pretty. Suff was the emcee while I volunteered to be camwhore for the day. Amidst all the eating, we received BRAND NEW INFORMATION and were totally caught off guard when we were expected to put up a skit of some sorts about Rai. We had never seen this coming and clearly had no idea how to begin.
The most unique part of this dinner though was the door gift. Rai made an individual card Hollywood style for everyone. Like I apparently was the Best Talent Scout for Child Actresses in ‘The Young Ones’. Suff got an award for Best Telephone Conversation in the Romantic Comedy 'Not Just Words'. Nazir had the Best Performance in the reality show ‘2 Lesbians and I’. Nas had the Best Opening Line in a Romantic Comedy with ‘Hello, Satay’. And Mus had the Best Use of Expletives in a Thriller ‘Uncensored’
These are our pictures. You will see a lot of our faces, so scroll down at your own peril.

Happy Birthday Rai! 21 is just a number. Suff is living proof.

Not Everyday's a Sunday
Oh my god oh my god oh my god. The weekends are here and Sunday is literally besok. Not just any other Sunday, but Grand Slam Sunday. Or Super Sunday. The term appropriately coined when the Big 4 in the EPL clashes for a showdown of seismic proportions. If you aren’t glowing in anticipation for these mouth watering fixtures, then you seriously need to get a life. Forget the Satays, bring on the Sunday. Man U vs. Liverpool. Chelsea Vs Arsenal. Need I say more?
Actually yes I do. Let’s now do a pre-match analysis ala Tohari Paijan. Or ala… carte. Whichever you prefer.
MAN U VS LIVERPOOL
Arguably the biggest rivalry in football. It does not get any bigger than this. Put the two most successful teams in England on the pitch and there WILL be fireworks. And add in a handful of the best players in the world pitting against each other and you’ll get WAR.
FORM
Liverpool’s form has been perfect for the past recent weeks. The Barnsley defeat has done them a world of good. Slowly and surely, Benitez is finding the perfect combination to produce quality performances week in and week out.
Man U on the other hand has not been performing that badly but given their standards, they are not firing in all cylinders. The goals have been few and far between but most importantly, they are getting the results at the end of the day.
KEY PLAYERS
This is pretty much a no brainer. In Fernando Torres and Cristiano Ronaldo, you have the two most in form players at the moment. Both are potential match winners and it’s all a question of big match temperament. Torres is deceptively quick and he places the ball in the back of the net with tremendous nonchalance. Tak boleh angkat sehh. While Ronaldo is the showboater who just happens to have a deadly right foot, a stinging left foot, a powerful header and runs at lightning speed. That’s all.
KEY BATTLES
Yes, Torres is a clinical goalscorer but he needs service baik and that’s where Steven Gerrard comes into play. We all know what Gerrard can do on his own and now that he plays off the striker, he now poses a greater attacking threat. The partnering in central defence for Man U is key given that Ferdinand may not play. If Anderson or Hargreaves can keep Gerrard quiet, then Pool’s attack will be neutralized. Similarly, Mascherano and Leiva will be constantly trying to disrupt the play by breaking down Man U’s passes at the first attempt. They have their work cut out and will be hunting down Rooney and Ronaldo especially.
PREDICTION
Look, I’ll be neutral here because I’m more of a soccer fan than a Man U fan. And unlike Nazir, I can be gracious in defeat and will give credit when it is due. Having said that, I will still go for Man U to nick a victory only because it is played at Old Trafford and that will give them the slight edge. Probably a 2-1 scoreline because Pool will be capable of scoring. (Nas, you know I’m not biased right)
CHELSEA VS ARSENAL
This London derby often tends to be a feisty and cagey affair. The most organized team goes against the best footballing side in the country. Expect fouls and lots of controversies. It won’t be pretty for sure.
FORM
Arsenal has been dropping points for the past 4 games and will be going into this one short of confidence. Their mental strength has been called into question recently and this will prove to be the sternest of test.
Chelsea is impregnable at home and Stamford Bridge has become quite a formidable fortress. They rarely concede goals playing in front of the home crowd and has a tendency to find the odd winning goal in alarming regularities.
KEY PLAYERS
Adebayorrrrr SHIFT SHIFT SHIIFT needs to find his goalscoring form again because at the moment, Arsenal is just lacking in the final third. He will be their main goalscoring threat and most definitely will trouble Chelsea defence in set pieces.
Joe Cole is the genuine creative talent in the squad. If he decides to put on a show, then he could easily thread that one decisive pass or score a scorcher himself. He is the ace up their sleeves.
KEY BATTLES
Arsenal is Fabregas. Rarely is he ever not involved in Arsenal’s intricate passing and beautiful play. If given the time and space, he will wreak havoc with that killer kisurat pass. Essien and Obi Mikel will be running their legs off to deny him from playing anywhere to his potential. Similarly , Flamini will be on a one man mission to stop Lampard from making his trademark runs into the box and somehow squeezing the ball into goal.
PREDICTION
I have a feeling that Chelsea just has this quiet confidence about them and the longer the game goes, the stronger they get. However, if Grant remains tactically naïve, there is a chance Arsenal can sneak one in. Justeru itu, a score draw, 1-1.
So after such a big hullabaloo, we definitely should catch this one together. Someone suggest something please.

A Daily Conversation with Mus
Policeman : Is this Pak Mat Tempeh’s house?
Sudin : Not here Sir. He lives over there. (points to the opposing room)
Policeman : Thank you.
So far so good right. Simple question and answer.
(Policeman repeatedly knocks on the door. Yet no reply)
Sudin : Knock harder, Sir.
Policeman : Madam, are you Pak Mat Tempeh’s wife?
Mus : YES. HE HAS BEEN OUT TO COLLECT MONEY SINCE AFTERNOON.
Baik Mus. Nobody asks about what he did la but never mind.
Policeman : Ohhhh, alright. Madam, Pak Mat Tempeh has been admitted to the General Hospital. He’s been hit by a vehicle.
Mus : THAT’S VERY TYPICAL OF HIM. SOMETIMES, THEY DON’T PAY THE DEBT FOR 2 TO 3 MONTHS.
Kisurat la Mus. What the hell are you saying. Open up your ears and listen please.
Sudin : Madam, madam . He is here to tell you that Pak Mat… RRRRRRRR KELEPOP KECEPER PON PON PON… was run over by a car.
Mus : YOUR PAK MAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT. HE ONLY CYCLES. HE’S NEVER BEEN IN A CAR.
Gasak kau la Mus. Berbual macam faham je. Buat kelakar sehh.
Sudin : (clearly peeved and so raises his voice) Pak Mat Tempeh has been hit by a car!!
Mus : HUHH?!!! (cries)
Ah padan muka kau.
