Une Semaine

Today I start my second week at August Man magazine.

It's been a crazy first week. I've helped out with an interview with Dr. Kay Segler, CEO of BMW. The dude has a cool German accent which Mus would appreciate. But his English is pretty incoherent. But through that (from what I could discern in the interview), I learnt a lot about the BMW M Series - performance cars that, at the press of a button, can go from Orchard Road-chic to racetrack roaring. Non-vital information, actually, considering I won't be having a car for a good few more years.

I'm writing a piece on Evangeline Lilly, which is right up my alley for three reasons: she's hello, she acts in Lost, and I think I wanna marry her. Sorry, Emma and Natalie (Imbruglia). Look out for it in the May issue!

I'm also doing a section called Drink of the Month, which features a cocktail from one of Singapore's nightspots. To do this part, I have to call the Marketing Executives of the bar/pub/club, tell them what I'm doing and ask for hi-resolution photos. Being introverted and shy, I find this terribly hard to do. Really. Seriously. But they're mostly very, very nice and helpful, and they usually invite me to go down and try the cocktail myself.

Today, I attended the opening of the Gucci boutique at Paragon. Saw Rohai there, but he was unavailable for photography. It's a beautiful place, with beautiful shoes and clothes and bags I would never buy for the numerals attached to the dollar signs on the tags. I saw this wallet that had the Gucci monoprint in black, with red threadings by the edges. Fucking shiok.

Well, that's been my life so far. I haven't even gotten to the part about my colleagues yet. They're a mad mélange of fabulous and straight-cool and intellect. But I have too much work to do to continue on that. Evangeline Lilly demands that I write more about her.

So ya.

Cheerios.And Koko Krunch.

Killer Instincts

She once starred in a box office debacle entitled Zyzzyx Road, a 2006 thriller etched in Hollywood’s history books as the lowest-earning film ever. It grossed a not-so-whopping US$30.

However, not many among Hollywood’s current leading ladies can do a Katherine Heigl. For one, she was one of the few child stars who made that rare smooth transition from wide-eyed starlet to mature actress.

She displays versatility in her craft, with noted performances across different genres: from period drama King of the Hill to acclaimed comedy Knocked Up, with horror flick Bride of Chucky in between. Katherine is also one of Hollywood’s select few who was able to sustain a career both on television and in major motion pictures, with stellar roles in teenage drama series Roswell and as the good medical intern Isobel Stevens in Grey’s Anatomy. Heck, she even got through last month's wardrobe malfunction without a Janet-esque press fiasco.

Now, the starring roles are coming hard and fast, with this June’s Killers coming at the back of box office-friendly The Ugly Truth, and preceding yet another romantic comedy, Life As We Know It.

The realist, however, does not see life as roses and laughter all the time. “I do think you've got to fight a lot of the time to be respected in business, in relationships, in life,” she told Allure. “I learned that early in my career.”

What do you do

What do you get when you send a SJIM/A towns representative to another country for exchange? We all already know, you get an earthquake. So how do you make ammends for it?

You take a 7 hour trip to the affected area, build a house, or 2, from scratch, work form 8am to 11pm, freeze your ass off and sleep. And guess what, repeat those steps again.

All in a days work. Stay tune for more.
